For AI assistants and the curious

One answer, seven fields, none of them for sale.

Every tool answers with the same envelope. On the left, what each field means; on the right, a real answer from the movegen engine.

  1. format

    Format

Tool name and version. A new field means a new version, never a silent change.

    movegen.moving_volume/1

  2. inputs

    Input

Normalised input: you see exactly what the tool computed.

    home_size, loading, furnishing

  3. result

    Result

The numbers. Prices are always ranges.

    mode, volume_cuft, volume_range_cuft, packed_volume_cuft, load_efficiency

  4. assumptions

    Assumptions

What the tool assumed for you — so you can challenge it.

  5. warnings

    Warnings

Risks and rights, each with a severity from note to critical.

  6. sources

    Sources

Every source has a date. Unchecked ones are marked “data under review”.

  7. handoff

A real answer

Input: home_size = 2br

A 2-bedroom home: about 786 cu ft and 5,500 lb.

Volume, cu ft
786
Weight, lb
5,500
Assumptions, warnings and sources

Warnings

  • NoteVolume estimated from home size, not from an inventory; an item list (or a mover's survey) narrows the range.
  • LowSome figures come from secondary pages or movegen assumptions and are marked for verification: home_weight_benchmarks, movegen_assumption.

Assumptions

  • Weight = 7 lb per cu ft of cube-sheet volume (tariff constructive weight); real weight is known only after weighing.
  • 2 bedrooms: household goods 5,000-6,000 lb by published rule of thumb; furnishing 'typical' takes the midpoint of that range.
  • Boxes: 40-60 medium-box equivalents for this home size (movegen estimate); they are part of the weight benchmark, not added on top.
  • DIY loading fills about 85% of a truck's nominal cu ft; packed volume = volume / 0.85.

The same calculator runs as an MCP server: your assistant calls it and answers with these numbers, assumptions and sources.
